THOUGHT OF EVERYTHING

Mag Lock 01 Drop Lid AirPods 5 Case Review

Quick Verdict

They really thought of everything, from the locking lid to the covered USB-C port. I don't necessarily think the magnets are perfect for MagSafe alignment, but they help.

Video Review

This AirPods 5 case has a locking mechanism, and having a case with extra protection and a lock is definitely nice. If I was to drop my AirPods, I wouldn’t have to worry about the case busting open and my AirPods going flying. I have to say, they really thought of everything with this one.

The Covered USB-C Port

On the bottom of the case, there’s a panel that opens up so you can get to the USB-C port. What I love about this is that the USB-C port is covered. These AirPods have wireless charging, and I’m often wirelessly charging mine. With an exposed USB-C port going in and out of my pocket, all it’s doing is collecting lint and getting gummed up. With it covered up, that’s an added layer of protection keeping my AirPods 5 clean, which I absolutely love.

Magnets on the Back

There are magnets on the back, so this will definitely help with attaching it to different devices. I don’t necessarily think these magnets are perfect for MagSafe alignment, but they’re definitely going to help with attaching your AirPods to a MagSafe charger for wireless charging, and with attaching the case to something magnetic to keep it off the ground. I often do this at the gym so I don’t have to have my AirPods in my pocket. I’ll stick the case on the squat rack or something like that while I’m working out.

What Comes With It

It comes with a carabiner you can attach to the side, and a little device to help you remove your AirPods from the case. It also comes with a little cleaning tool. As you know, our AirPods get a little gummed up over time, and this cleaning tool will help keep your AirPods nice and clean, and even your AirPods case. There are times you’re going to need to clean down into the case, because something can get in there and affect the charging, so it’s nice that it actually comes with an accessory like that.

On top of that, you also get a case for your case. You can put your AirPods in it and zip it up for another added layer of protection. I actually absolutely love this, because many times I’m throwing my AirPods into some sort of bag, and they’re bouncing around. That isn’t a problem, but they can still pop open. This case has the latch to keep it from popping open, and the zip-up case has a little area of storage, so you can add your accessories or even a little USB cable.

Installing the Top

The top portion of this case does need to be aligned. There’s an adhesive strip you peel back before you attach it. I recommend starting on the front, getting the front aligned, and then sliding the back portion down. That way you can make sure the lid is aligned perfectly so the lock will work. When it’s on right, it should fly open when you open it, and I’d probably sit here and fiddle with that for hours on end. There’s also a magnet that helps with the attachment.

Final Verdict

★★★★☆

I have to say, they really thought of everything with this case. The locking mechanism means I don't have to worry about the case busting open and my AirPods going flying if I drop them, and the panel over the USB-C port keeps it from collecting lint and getting gummed up in my pocket, which I absolutely love. You also get a carabiner, a little cleaning tool, and a zip-up case for your case with room for accessories. I don't necessarily think the magnets on the back are perfect for MagSafe alignment, but they're definitely going to help with a MagSafe charger and with sticking the case to something magnetic, like a squat rack at the gym.
