Quick Verdict

A ton of protection all the way around, and it's still really lightweight. For my own preference it adds a little too much bulk, and it's a little slick.

Video Review

This is the Air X from Rhinoshield, one of the 17 cases I tested for the iPhone 18 Pro Max. It adds a lot of protection all the way around the device, and what keeps catching me off guard is how lightweight it is.

Protection and Weight

Somehow Rhinoshield managed to make this a very thick protective case all the way around the phone without adding a ton of bulk to it. And it’s still really lightweight. I guess that’s where the Air X name comes from.

It does add a bit of width to the phone, but it doesn’t add a whole lot of thickness, and it’s pretty well balanced. So it still feels really good in the hand. It doesn’t feel super bulky like some of the other cases out there that just feel like there’s a lot there.

The Rhinoshield branding on the side is very minimal. It’s really even hard to see. The case comes in different color options as well.

Screen-Down Protection

There’s a good amount of screen-down protection too. If you’re constantly putting your phone screen down onto surfaces, this is going to raise the screen up just a little bit so your screen won’t get scratched. I also have a screen protector on, and there’s still a good amount of the case coming up over the side of the phone.

Buttons and Camera Control

The buttons are integrated into the case. You can feel little ridges that signify where the buttons are, and all of them are really responsive. Not a problem there.

One of the things I like about Rhinoshield is that they’ve got their camera control button dialed in. It doesn’t take much to zoom around, double tap on the button to get into the other camera options, and then get back to zoom. It’s very light and responsive. A lot of other cases have good camera control buttons, but not many of them feel as light and easy to use, as if you don’t even have a case on at all. Rhinoshield’s done a great job with their camera control button.

Magnet

It has a good strong magnet on it, and it survives the shake test. I shook the phone around a bit with a magnet on the back, and no issues there.

Bulk and Handling

Now, for my own personal preferences, this case adds a little too much bulk to the phone. I already struggle to reach all the way over to the other side of my phone, so using this one-handed is definitely going to be a bit of a challenge, especially if you have a smaller hand. But the iPhone 18 Pro Max is about large enough that if you’re reaching over to the far side of the phone, you’re probably going to be holding it with both hands anyway.

It’s also a little slick, so that might be a consideration.

Who It’s For

If you’re prone to drop your phone, this one has just a ton of protection all the way around. There’s definitely a balance between needing enough bulk to protect your phone against drops and still making it accessible. This case does a great job of that because it’s extremely lightweight while adding a ton of protection all the way around.
